H.A.D. is the umbrella group for disability in Havering with 60 disability groups affiliated to us. We give advice, information and support to anyone with a disability, a carer or a professional.
Our main aim is to empower our members so that they are involved in decision making in the community. To this purpose we provide training in self-advocacy, committee skills, funding, sign language and computers and much more. We have also set up a Community Care Forum.
We also provide training in complementary therapies such as Tai-Chi and Alexander Technique. Weekly craft classes are run and daily computer tuition with our Training Co-ordinator provided by the National Lottery.
Transport is another service we provide for our members with a specially adapted bus driven by volunteers. This is used to get people to clubs, activities and on holiday.

The Havering Residents' Association is an umbrella group which combines all the Residents' Associations' across the borough. Our aim is to provide support, information and guidance on a range of community issues and the website is an extension of that principle. The site also encourages debate and opinion and provides a useful platform for anyone to raise concerns on an individual or community wide basis.
You may be aware that the London Borough of Havering is Twinned with Ludwigshafen am Rhein in Germany. The formal relationship started in April 1961 since when thousands of people have benefited from exchange visits and very many enjoy enduring friendships.
Most of the people taking part belong to groups from schools, churches, sports clubs, political parties and so on. One of the most successful groups is the Ha - Lu Twinning Association made up of citizens from many walks of life. They simply share the hope that they are contributing to greater understanding and mutual trust of people in our country and Germany, thereby helping to ensure a peaceful future for us all.
Recently the HTA has initiated friendship links with Hesdin in Northern France and Almazora in Eastern Spain. The hope is that these links may also develop into formal twinnings.
For further information about any of these links and other HTA activities please ring 01708 761541.
We are the London Empty Homes Hotline and we work closely with Jackie Cooper, LB Havering's Empty Property Officer. Our aim is to help the owners of London's 120,000 empty homes put them back into use, by offering free, independent and localised advice.
"If there is nothing wrong with me, why am I in so much agony".
That statement is probably the most common that you will hear from someone who has back problem. One in three people will suffer from back pain at sometime in their life. What is the answer? There are many answers but not a universal cure.
Self-helps group could be part of the answer. Since I started the Havering branch in May 1994 I have found that when you bring people together who share a common problem, some answers can be found.
Once a month we invite a professional from the field of back pain to come along and talk to our group about self care techniques, new ideas, and ways to educate us how to use our bodies more sensibly. Hopefully, this will reduce the debilitating problems we all face.
We encourage our members to swap ideas, self care techniques and useful handy hints that we have all gathered in the fullness of time. Back pain war stories however are discouraged as we all have those to tell. That is not to say that members would not receive a sympathetic hearing if they are having a difficult time.
